Jennifer Manlove Child Trends
Jennifer Manlove, area director for Fertility and Family Structure at Child Trends, has conducted research on adolescent and nonmarital fertility for the past decade. Her analytic work has focused on the causes and consequences of adolescent fertility and subsequent fertility to adolescent mothers. She has been involved in several research projects that assess demographic trends in teen and young adult sexual activity, contraceptive use, pregnancy and childbearing. She has also been involved in assessing the influence of community context and welfare policies on nonmarital fertility among women of childbearing age. She has helped coordinate research briefs on adolescent sexual activity and contraceptive use, effective programs for pregnancy prevention, nonmarital childbearing, and an annual fact sheet on teenage childbearing – Facts at a Glance.
Dr. Manlove has extensive experience in the design and use of longitudinal data files. She has been responsible for designing modules on dating, partners, sex and contraception as a member of the design team for the NLSY97. She was also involved in design work for the ECLS-K and ECLS-B surveys. She has used month-by-month event history data from the NSFG 1995 and has a grant to continue work with the NSFG 2002. In addition, she has analyzed data from the NLSY79, Add Health, and NLSY97, using event history analyses, and controlling for design effects and state-level fixed effects.
