Sharon Sassler Cornell University
Sharon Sassler, Ph.D., an Associate Professor in Policy Analysis and Management at Cornell, has published studies that focus on the entrance into and timing of marriage and cohabiting unions. As a social demographer, her research examines factors shaping the activities of young adults and their life course transitions into school and work, relationships, and parenthood. She is currently examining the formation of step-families, focusing in particular on men who become step-fathers and the factors shaping their entrance into cohabitation or marriage. Other work utilizes both quantitative and qualitative data to examine views of marriage and cohabitation, household decision-making, and the way gender shapes relationship progression, the division of paid and domestic labor, and parenting desires.
